The Creative Digital Media course is an introductory course that combines digital video production, photography, and graphic design. This course will serve as a starting point for students who want to experience both of the different media creation outlets of still photography and/or video media. In this course, students will get hands-on experience in all aspects of digital media creation which can help them choose their path forward between photography and video. Students will also learn how to create entertaining and educational material to be expressed through a variety of applications and social media platforms.
Creative Digital Media is a pathway course that introduces students to Photography and Video Production. It is the pre-requisite course for Studio Photography, Creative Photography, Broadcasting Media, and Cinematic Storytelling. Creative Photography and Cinematic Storytelling will be available in the 2025-2026 school year.

Projects & Quizzes -50%
Most projects will be done in a group setting. Students within the group will earn the same grade for the overall project, but students will complete self and peer evaluations following each project, which will impact their project grade. Tests and quizzes will also be graded within this category.
Assignments - 40%
This portion of the grade will be made up of classwork and homework assignments. Homework assignments are not often given, but a few are graded assignments. Classwork will be made up of assignments given throughout lessons that prepare students for their large projects.
Portfolio - 10%
Students will be graded each marking period on their online portfolio. The portfolio is used to evaluate students' knowledge learned throughout the course.
Extra Credit & Community Service Hours
Students can earn credit by working production crew for a Cherokee Digital Media or LDTV Sports event at Cherokee. To earn the credit, students must sign up in advance for the event, arrive at crew call, effectively work their crew position, and stay through the completion of the event, which includes the breaking down of the equipment. Students can also create broadcast-quality content for Cherokee Digital Media and LDTV. Students may opt for extra credit or community service hours when signing up for events.
